Even the smallest changes can lead to a drastic improvement in your health, mind and body..
#1- Beginning A Garden & Raising Livestock
Just the feeling alone that you grew those beans and that those eggs came from your own backyard is a great feeling of accomplishment. I'm not saying it's gonna be easy but it's so worth it in the end. Start out with a few plants and see how it goes.
Our family plants enough to get us through the season and more so we can have fresh fruits and veggies in the freezer to grab when needed.
As for livestock, we started with 6 chickens for eggs and now we have over 50 and we are hooked.
If you want to be more self sufficent, backyard chickens and a garden is the first area I would highly suggest where to start. You don't want to go all in and get overwhelmed so start slow and work up to it.
#2 - Cookware
In the last year, we switched out all our Teflon kitchenware for all cast iron and stainless steel. When Teflon is heated, it releases toxic fumes that can lead to flu like symptoms making you sick, so please think twice when you take that pan out to cook your dinner.
We love our cast iron pans, we cook everything in them. I highly suggest changing to cast iron and stainless steel cookware. Yes the cost is more upfront but they are made to last forever.
"Cast iron is made to last a lifetime and has been around for thousands of years"
#3- Seed Oils
(vegetable oil, canola oil & soybean oil)
Once we realized what seed oils were doing to the body, we instantly made the switch. Seed oils are highly processed that cause oxidative stress in the body and can lead to inflammation and diesease. I highly suggest to avoid these as much as you can and yes I know it's hard because lets face it, we all love to go out to eat and yes it's very hard to avoid. It all starts at home with little steps that will help a long way.
We use beef tallow, organic olive oil, avocado oil and coconut oil in our household.
#4- Pre-packaged & Processed Foods
You really gotta read those food labels. That was a huge part in my studies through NASM on how to read them and what to look for.
Yes pre-packaged and processed foods are easy and cheap to grab at the store to keep at home for those busy nights but they are not doing your family any good in the long haul. We first started by making our own condiments such as BBQ sauce and Mayo and now we are an ingredient based household. From bread to pizza dough, to our meats and veggies, we only buy from locally sourced farms or we make it, raise it and grow it ourselves. I will be sharing how to make condiments and so much more so make sure to check back for those.
#5- Non- Toxic Cleaning Supplies
I personally use vinegar for just about everything in my household. We make our own laundry detergent, dishwasher tablets, cleaning supplies and hand soap. I also make my own deodorant, face wash, dry shampoo, sunscreen, acne treatment roller and beef tallow face cream and I still have more that I will get to as well. Just because they say they are cleaning or beauty products doesn't make them always a good choice.
If making products is not your forte there are some great alternatives out there and always make sure to check my store for some of those products as well for sale.
Please read those labels.. Food is everything!!
Coming from having a rare skin cancer in a spot that was not exposed to the sun really makes you think twice about things.
I am very careful about the products I use on myself and my loved ones.
Now I don't expect you to all go out and make all these changes over night, we sure didn't. We started with a few things and worked our way down the list.
Take 1 thing that you know you eat or use on a daily basis.
Next, think about what it's doing to your body?
Is it doing your body good or is it doing your body harm?
Think about it.....
